6 steps to Install docker on Ubuntu 23.4 using convenience script.

We are going to follow the below steps to install docker engine on ubuntu version 23.4

  1. Check OS version first.
    $cat /etc/release
install docker on ubuntu

2. Check for OS update

$ sudo apt-get update
$ sudo apt-get install ca-certificates curl gnupg

3. uninstall any previously installed docker packages

$for pkg in docker.io docker-doc docker-compose podman-docker containerd runc; do sudo apt-get remove $pkg; done

4. Download and Install using the convenience script

$curl -fsSL https://get.docker.com -o get-docker.sh

$sudo sh get-docker.sh

5.check docker version

$sudo docker version

6.Run a container and test with below command. This command will pull the image from docker hub and run the container on your host.

$sudo docker run docker/whalesay cowsay Hi Friends

This completes our docker installation on ubuntu server. 23.4

7. Command to remove installed docker from the server

$sudo apt-get purge docker-ce docker-ce-cli containerd.io docker-buildx-plugin docker-compose-plugin docker-ce-rootless-extras

$sudo rm -rf /var/lib/docker
$sudo rm -rf /var/lib/containerd
