LDC typing test: SSC and departmental requirements
Lower Division Clerk (LDC) is one of the most commonly filled government positions in India, recruited through SSC CHSL (Combined Higher Secondary Level) and departmental examinations. The typing test for LDC through SSC CHSL requires 35 WPM in English (10,500 key depressions per hour, KDPH) or 30 WPM in Hindi (9,000 KDPH) on a 15-minute paper.
The LDC typing test in SSC CHSL is conducted in Tier-3 (Skill Test / Computer Proficiency Test). Candidates who qualify Tier-2 are called for this stage. The test uses a specific passage provided by the commission and is evaluated by counting gross keystrokes and deducting errors per the official SSC error-counting method.
Key differences in SSC LDC scoring
SSC uses a specific scoring system: each full mistake deducts 1/2 word from the gross word count, and each half mistake deducts 1/4 word. A full mistake is an incorrect word; a half mistake is a word with extra or missing spaces. Understanding this scoring is essential because it differs from the net-WPM calculation used on most online typing tests including TypingMonk.
Practice using the medium difficulty 15-minute test on TypingMonk and then mentally apply the SSC error-counting formula to your result. Aim for 97%+ accuracy in practice so that after the SSC deduction method, your net result still clears 35 WPM. Many candidates pass the speed threshold but fail due to error deductions.
