Madhya Pradesh has been making determined efforts to attract industrial investment and develop its manufacturing and services sectors to diversify its economy beyond agriculture and reduce rural poverty through the creation of non-farm employment. The Avas evam Vikas Nigam and Audyogik Kendra Vikas Nigam Madhya Pradesh, commonly known as AKVN, is the primary state agency responsible for the development of industrial areas, special economic zones, and industrial parks across Madhya Pradesh, providing plotted land, factory sheds, common infrastructure, and other facilities to industrial investors. AKVN manages dozens of industrial areas across the state, ranging from large integrated industrial zones in major cities to small industrial clusters in district and block headquarter towns. The Madhya Pradesh Industrial Development Corporation and the Madhya Pradesh Trade and Investment Facilitation Corporation work alongside AKVN to promote investment, provide single-window clearance for project approvals, and support the establishment of new industries. Madhya Pradesh holds an annual investors' summit called the Global Investors' Summit or Invest Madhya Pradesh, which brings together domestic and foreign investors, industry associations, financial institutions, and government officials to showcase investment opportunities and sign memoranda of understanding for investment proposals. The summits have generated significant declared investment intentions, though the conversion of intentions into actual investment and employment requires sustained follow-up and problem resolution. Sectors in which Madhya Pradesh has developed significant industrial capacity include pharmaceuticals, particularly in Indore which has emerged as one of India's major pharmaceutical manufacturing hubs; food processing, supported by the state's agricultural production base; automobile components; garments and textiles; cement production utilising the state's limestone deposits; and information technology enabled services concentrated in Indore and Bhopal. The Pithampur industrial area near Indore, developed as a major automobile and pharmaceutical manufacturing cluster, hosts many large and medium-scale industrial units and is one of the most successful industrial areas developed by AKVN. The Mandideep industrial area near Bhopal has attracted pharmaceutical, food processing, and general engineering industries. Special economic zones for information technology and pharmaceutical sectors have been developed in Indore to attract export-oriented investment. Infrastructure development for industry encompasses reliable power supply, road connectivity, logistics infrastructure, skilled manpower, and a supportive regulatory environment. The state has worked to improve these factors through investment in power transmission and distribution, the development of industrial corridors along major highways, upgradation of skills in industrial training institutes, and simplification of labour and environmental compliance procedures. Land availability for industry has been enhanced through AKVN's programme of developing new industrial areas in districts that were previously poorly served, and the state has attempted to reduce delays in land allotment to new investors through digitisation and process reform.
