The Rajasthan Public Service Commission, established under Article 315 of the Constitution of India as the constitutional body responsible for conducting competitive examinations and making recommendations for appointments to civil services and posts in connection with the affairs of the State of Rajasthan, plays a central and indispensable role in the recruitment of the administrative, police, accounts, forest, and various other services of the state government, ensuring that the selection of candidates for these important positions is based on merit, assessed through fair and transparent competitive examination processes, and free from the influence of political favouritism, caste considerations, and personal connections that might otherwise compromise the integrity and efficiency of the public service. The Commission administers entrance examinations for the Rajasthan Administrative Service, through which candidates are recruited to positions as Sub-Divisional Magistrates and District Officers, the Rajasthan Police Service, the Rajasthan Accounts Service, the Rajasthan Forest Service, and a large number of other state services and departmental posts requiring graduate-level education and a high standard of general knowledge, analytical ability, and written communication skills. The selection process for most major services conducted by the Commission follows a three-stage pattern, beginning with a preliminary objective-type examination used to shortlist a manageable number of candidates for the more comprehensive and intensive main examination, which typically comprises multiple papers covering general knowledge, the relevant specialised subjects of the service being recruited for, essay writing, and in some services a paper on a regional or classical language, followed by a personal interview or viva voce examination in which the shortlisted candidates from the main examination are assessed by a panel of experienced senior officers and Commission members on their personality, communication skills, awareness of current affairs, and overall suitability for the demanding responsibilities of public service. The Commission maintains a high standard of transparency and procedural fairness in all its recruitment activities, publishing detailed recruitment notifications in leading newspapers published in Hindi and English, making model answer keys for objective-type examinations publicly available on its official website within a few days of the conduct of the examination, providing a formal channel for candidates to submit objections to specific questions or answer keys within a specified time limit, constituting subject expert committees to evaluate the objections received and to revise answer keys where necessary before preparing the final result list, and maintaining comprehensive records of all proceedings to enable review or challenge in case of complaints. The Rajasthan Staff Selection Board, a separate body functioning alongside the Commission and focused specifically on the recruitment of non-gazetted subordinate service employees in Class Three category posts, conducts examinations for the Lower Division Clerk, Junior Assistant, Junior Accountant, Informatics Assistant, Stenographer, Gram Sevak, and numerous other posts across the departments and offices of the state government. The typing skill test conducted as a component of the selection process for certain Class Three posts including the Lower Division Clerk and Junior Assistant carries marks that are added to the written examination score to determine the final merit ranking of candidates, creating an important additional dimension of competition that rewards candidates who have invested in developing proficient and accurate typing skills alongside their preparation of the academic and general knowledge content of the written examination. The Rajasthan Staff Selection Board has aligned the format, duration, and evaluation methodology of its typing test with the norms prescribed by the Department of Personnel and Training of the Government of India, ensuring that the standard of typing proficiency expected of successful candidates meets the requirements of modern computerised government office work.
