The Uttar Pradesh government has established the Mukhyamantri Krishak Durghatna Kalyan Yojana to provide financial assistance to farmers and agricultural labourers who suffer accidents while engaged in farming activities across the state. Under the scheme, compensation ranging from one lakh to five lakh rupees is paid to the legal heirs and dependants of farmers who die or suffer permanent or partial disability in agricultural accidents involving tractors, threshers, harvesters, tube well pumps, electricity-related incidents, and other agricultural machinery and equipment. The scheme is administered by the Revenue Department and applications are submitted online through the designated state portal within a specified time limit from the date of the accident. The applicant must furnish documents including the first information report or post-mortem report in case of death, a disability certificate issued by a government medical board in case of disability, land ownership or cultivation records of the deceased or injured farmer, and the Aadhaar card and bank account details of the claimant. District-level committees verify the applications and recommend payment of compensation to eligible claimants within a fixed time frame. The scheme has provided timely financial relief to thousands of farming families who might otherwise have been left in severe financial hardship following the sudden loss of the earning member of the household due to a farming-related accident. Awareness about the scheme is disseminated through gram panchayat offices, block development offices, and agriculture department extension workers so that eligible families are informed of their entitlements and can apply without undue delay.
