The UP Internship Scheme has been designed and launched by the Government of Uttar Pradesh to provide practical work experience and a monthly financial stipend to students who are in the process of completing technical and non-technical courses from government-recognised institutions including polytechnic colleges, industrial training institutes, degree colleges, and professional institutes. The scheme aims to bridge the significant skill gap that exists between the competencies typically acquired through formal academic education and the practical skills and professional behaviours that employers in industry, trade, and services actually require from new employees entering the workforce for the first time. Under the scheme, selected students undergo a structured internship of six months' duration at approved establishments in the government, semi-government, and private sectors, gaining hands-on exposure to real work environments, practical processes, and professional workplace norms under the guidance of experienced supervisors. During the internship period, each student receives a monthly stipend, with the state government contributing five hundred rupees per month and the establishment hosting the intern contributing an additional stipend to support the student's living expenses. Successful completion of the internship is certified and is expected to improve the employability of participants by adding demonstrable work experience to their academic qualifications. The scheme has been particularly beneficial for students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds who may lack the family connections and networks typically relied upon by more privileged students to secure internship opportunities in reputable organisations.
