The UP Lekhpal recruitment examination, which is conducted periodically to fill vacancies in the revenue department, is among the most keenly anticipated and heavily contested of all UPSSSC examinations, drawing applications from hundreds of thousands of candidates across the state who aspire to secure a permanent government position that provides stable employment, reasonable compensation, and social status in rural and semi-urban communities. The Revenue Lekhpal is a frontline revenue functionary posted at the village or multi-village level who performs a range of important duties including the maintenance of accurate and current land records in the prescribed forms and registers, the preparation and verification of crop survey documents reflecting the area sown under different crops in each agricultural season, the recording of oral boundary settlements and inheritance mutations for changes in land ownership, the support of district administration in the preparation of natural calamity reports and compensation assessments, and the implementation and monitoring of various government welfare schemes at the grassroots level. The post requires candidates who are literate in Hindi and possess basic computer skills adequate for maintaining digital land records and filing returns through the Bhulekh and other state government revenue portals, and the UPSSSC Lekhpal examination tests candidates on general knowledge, Hindi language, mathematics, and rural development concepts relevant to the functions of the post.
